Paediatric Surgery

Pediatric Surgery at Christian Medical College & Hospital Ludhiana was started formally by Professor M.C. Deodhar who received his training under Prof. William Kieswetter & Professor Mark Ravitch the fathers of modern day pediatric surgery.

We became a full feldged department in 2004.

In 2011 the department moved to a larger 21 bedded ward with an attached fully equipped five bedded neonatal and infant high dependancy unit with post-operative ventilation facilities. Further intensive care facilities are provided in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

The department through its well equipped surgical suite offers a wide range of paediatric endoscopic procedures including laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgery along with open pediatric surgery. We are one the first centres in Punjab to offer neonatal and infant laparoscopy and thoracoscopy.

In 2012 the department became the state of Punjab’s first and only Medical Council of India and Baba Farid University Of Health Scineces  recognized paediatric surgery training centre for award of the MCh (Pediatric Surgery) degree.

The aim of the department has always been to provide quality and modern surgical care to children.

The department provides specialized care in neonatal surgery, general paediatric surgery, pediatric head and neck surgery, pediatric thoracic surgery, pediatric gastrointestinal surgery, pediatric hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, paediatric urology, paediatric anorectal and colorectal surgery, paediatric laparoscopic surgery and paediatric surgical oncology.
