Christian Medical College, Ludhiana was established in 1894 by Dame Edith Mary Brown to provide comprehensive health care services to the Residents of Ludhiana, especially Muslim ladies who had problems being examined by male physicians. The Institution became a Medical School only for ladies as part of this social responsibility. In the year 1953 it was upgraded to a full-fledged Medical College and started admitting Male students also. At the time of inception, the college was affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh. With the establishment of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences in 1999, the College is now affiliated to this health university.
The institution is situated in a large campus a couple of kilometers from Ludhiana railway station, on both sides of the Brown Road named after Dame Edith M Brown. The Campus has residential quarters for the staff, hostels for students, both men and women.
Christian Medical College, Ludhiana has multiple streams like Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Allied Health Sciences. In the Medical stream, it offers courses leading to the award of MBBS, Postgraduate Degrees/Diplomas and Super-specialization programmes.

Christian Medical College – The admissions to various courses are made by an Entrance Examination strictly on merit. There are no paid seats or capitation fee seats. The institution imparts community oriented medical education and a large proportion of graduates go to serve in the Mission Hospitals in rural, unreached areas. There is emphasis on not only providing them knowledge but giving them good practical skills and developing positive attitude and good communication skills.
The Medical Council of India has recognized the College as a Nodal Centre for Faculty Development which takes care of 45 colleges in North India to provide Basic and Advanced training in Medical Education. Faculty members from the Institution are serving as National Consultant to Medical Council of India for implementing this nation wide programme.
Two of the former Principals have been decorated with Dr. B.C. Roy Award by the Medical Council of India.
The Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) based in Philadelphia, USA has recognized the College as one of three Regional Centers in India for Faculty Development.
Hospital – The Hospital has almost all specialities and provides state of the art medical care in various medical and surgical specialities with latest technology, equipment and renowned doctors. A special budget is kept aside for poor patients and others who cannot afford medical care. The hospital also runs many outreach services in rural and urban areas to provide medical services close to their homes for easy access.
The doctors and staff of the hospital have provided exemplary services during natural calamities like Dabwali Fire, Khanna Rail Accident, Floods in Kashmir and Earth quakes in Gujarat.
Our Faculty, Medical and Para-medical; teaching staff and other staff come from nearly every state in India. Staff of all faiths live and serve together in the institution in an atmosphere of mutual respect, trust and love. The Government of India and Punjab have continued their interest and support in the work and the development of the College and its hospital.
